How to Use the CSV Uploader to Add/Update Profile Data

The CSV Uploader is a tool that easily allows you to add/update profiles in the Grip Dashboard. With this tool, you can create/update Users, Companies, and Items through a CSV file automatically generated by Grip. All you need to do is copy and paste the mandatory data into the appropriate fields and upload the file in the dashboard. You can find out more information about this tool below.

CSV Uploader Overview

The CSV Uploader was created because we wanted to find a way to make uploading information, a lot or a little, fast and easy. This feature allows you to take an automatically generated template, fill it out and upload it back into the platform to quickly add/change data. Below is everything that comes along with this feature:

• Automatically Generated CSV Template (Registration Data Only and/or All Data Fields)
• Add User, Company, and Item Data - Registration Data Only (Name, Email, and Registration ID Fields Only)
• Add User, Company, and Item Data - All Data Fields (All Profile Fields Including Metadata)
• Update User, Company, and Item Data

To start using the CSV Uploader, you need to navigate to the Data section of the Grip Dashboard and select the Data Type you want to add or make changes to. The navigation path is below:

Once you have selected the Data Type you want to start adding/updating, there will be a button on the far right called "Upload [Data Type Name] Profiles" that will redirect you to the CSV Uploader where you can start downloading the CSV template and upload data. 

*It is important to note that you must have at least 1 profile to see this Upload Button. If there is not at least 1 profile, then the button will read "Create Profile" and you will need to manually create 1 profile.

How to Download the CSV Template

Once you are on the CSV Uploader page, there will be a Drop-down with three options, "Download Template" button, and "Continue to Upload" button.

To download the CSV Template, select the appropriate drop-down option and then click the "Download Template" button. The Drop-down options are:

1. Add Only Registration Details
   • This option generates a CSV file only with the fields: Registration ID, Email, First Name
     
     
2. Add New Profiles and Replace Existing Profile Data
   • This option generates a CSV file with all profile fields and any Metadata that is enabled for that specific Data Type
   • Once uploaded, only fields that have a value will be posted. Empty fields on the template will post empty values on a profile.
     
     
     • Example: Attendee A has a value in their profile for headline and location. Then Attendee A has an empty value for headline and location on the CSV Template. Once uploaded the previous headline and location values will be blank on their profile. 
       
       
3. Add New Profiles and Update Existing Profile Data
   • This option generates a CSV file with all profile fields and any Metadata that is enabled for that specific Data Type
   • Once uploaded, this option will add any new values without affecting previously uploaded data
     
     
     • Example: Attendee A has a value on their profile for company name. Then Attendee A has a new company name and headline in the CSV Template. Once uploaded the company name and headline will update to what was in the CSV.

How to Upload the CSV Template

Once you have downloaded and filled out a template to add and/or update profile data, you can begin uploading the CSV template back into the Grip Platform.

1. Start by navigating back to the CSV Uploader through the steps mentioned above and select the appropriate drop-down option and click "Continue to Upload."
   
   
   • Add Only Registration Details
     
     • This option ONLY adds profiles and the mandatory fields which are: Registration ID, Email, and First Name
   • Add New Profiles and Overwrite Existing Profile Data
     • This option will add profiles and all provided fields if their Email and Registration ID does not exist in the event. Basic profile data (like Name, Job Title) that was added in a previous event will be overwritten with any new data included on the upload sheet.
     • If the Email or Registration ID already exists, the upload will skip the record.
   • Add New Profiles and Patch Existing Profile Data
     • If the Email and Registration ID does not exist in the event, this option will add the profile to the event with all provided fields and data, overwriting basic profile data (like Name, Job Title) that was added in a previous event. 
     • If the Email and Registration ID does exist in the event, this option will update and overwrite any included data.
       
       
       
       
2. On this next page, there will be informational drop-downs that can help you fill out some of the columns within the template. Information such as: Group IDs, Session IDs, and Metadata Keys can be found here and added to the appropriate columns in the CSV template.
   
   
   These drop-downs are informational only.
   
   
3. Once you are ready to upload your finalized CSV template, you can click the "Upload Template" button and select the appropriate file.
   
   
   If you selected the wrong file, you can click the "x" icon next to the file name.
   
   
4. Once the file has been added, click "Start Upload" and you will see an upload status pop-up. Once this reaches 100%, you will be redirected to a page where you can see the profiles that were added/updated successfully or profiles that failed to be added/updated.

*If there are any profiles that fail to be added/updated, then you can download a failed items report that gives a reason as to why the profile failed to be added/updated.
